About

“Telling stories that capture the heart and mind”

Skyhouse Films was established to communicate visual stories through filmmaking and photography.  This includes concept development, writing, cinematography, photography, editing and final delivery with client approval and satisfaction.  Our mission is to provide clients with resources that equip them to tell their story, creating media that communicates an organizations work accurately and powerfully.

As the owner of Skyhouse Films, John Gyovai has traveled the world creating media that captures the heart and mind.  Through powerful images and effective storytelling, these projects have won awards and transformed lives.

John’s background includes productions for non-profits, NGO’s, faith-based and corporate clients.  As an editor, he has crafted commercials for Discovery Channel, TLC and National Geographic.  As a cinematographer and photographer, John has traveled to more than a dozen countries capturing images from glaciers to gurus, developing a reputation for visually beautiful and unique content.  His documentaries, “The Story of the Lost Book,” “Eyes on India” and the recent “Hidden Voices: Urban Refugees in Nairobi, Kenya” are award winning films.

Understanding the power of media to connect and transform lives, John founded the non-profit organization MediaServe International and serves as President.  MSI recently helped create the documentary film Oscar’s Cuba and partnered with the International Rescue Committee to tell the story of urban refugees from Somalia, Congo and Ethiopia.

Skyhouse Films understands culture and media.  We have the experience and passion that can take your project from script to screen with success.

“As a humanitarian, it brings me great joy to use my talents and gifts to help create positive change.  I believe in the power of the visual story to connect people and inspire them to make a global difference.”  John Gyovai

Short film wins festival

We are happy to announce that a 4 minute version of the film “Hidden Voices: Urban Refugees in Nairobi, Kenya” has won in the documentary people/places category at the Can-Do International Film Festival and Competition.  This first time festival is open to projects shot with the Canon line of DSLR’s.  It was a great fit for us (we shot on the Canon 7D) and we look forward to finishing the longer version of the film this summer.

You can also view the film in the video portfolio section of our website.
